The City of Lakin wants to make residents aware that a notification will be arriving by mail regarding a recent reporting requirement for our Public Water System.
What happened?
The City of Lakin Public Water System did not upload a required customer notification—titled Notification of Known or Potential Service Line Containing Lead—to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) online portal by the July 1, 2025 deadline.
What does this mean for you?
The notification itself was distributed to all customers who may have been impacted. The issue is strictly related to reporting and monitoring requirements and does not affect the quality or safety of your drinking water.
Public water systems are required to notify customers when a known or potential lead service line is present and to upload proof of that notification to KDHE. While the notification was provided to customers as required, the upload to KDHE was not completed by the deadline, resulting in a monitoring violation.
Important to know:
-This violation is administrative only
-It does not mean there is lead in your drinking water
-It does not indicate a health emergency
-No action is required from customers at this time
What’s being done?
The City of Lakin submitted the required documentation to KDHE and is taking steps to ensure full compliance with all reporting procedures moving forward.
If you have questions or would like additional information, please contact:
Travis Lovelady
City Administrator
📞 620-355-6252
Thank you for your understanding and for being part of our community. 💙🌾
