The City of Lakin will soon be installing two new stop signs at the intersection of Kendall Avenue and Bopp Boulevard, creating a new 4-way stop to improve traffic control and pedestrian safety in one of the community’s busiest areas.
This traffic control improvement is being implemented in response to ongoing concerns regarding vehicle speeds along Bopp Boulevard and the need to create a safer environment for both motorists and pedestrians.
The intersection is located near Thornbrough Park, a highly utilized community space that sees regular activity throughout the day. In addition to recreation sports practices and games, the park includes a walking path and playground equipment and is frequently visited by children, families, and residents enjoying the park amenities.
The area also serves as a common route for students walking or riding their bicycles to and from school. With the amount of daily pedestrian and bicycle traffic in this corridor, the new 4-way stop is intended to help slow vehicles and provide a safer, more controlled crossing point.
City Administrator Travis Lovelady said, “This is a commonsense improvement that will help slow traffic in a heavily used area of our community. With students, families, and park visitors regularly crossing in this area, adding a 4-way stop is an important step in keeping everyone safe.”
This improvement is a proactive step toward enhancing safety for everyone who uses the area, whether traveling to school, visiting the park, walking the trail, or attending community activities.
The City of Lakin remains committed to making improvements that enhance the safety and quality of life for our community. These new stop signs reflect that commitment and the City’s continued efforts to respond to the needs of residents.
Motorists are asked to please use caution, watch for the new signage, and remain attentive to pedestrians, bicyclists, and increased activity near the park and surrounding area.
For additional information, please contact the Lakin Administrative Center.
